New Ergonomic Desk Chair Will Definitely Fix Everything
Life updates, words, and general chit chat from the week
What I’ve Been Up To
We had friends over for dinner this weekend, so I spent Saturday cleaning the house and then baking a cake. I think I’ve officially determined that cakes are my favorite thing to bake. There’s just so much presentation involved when you’re done, and stacking cake layers is oddly satisfying to me.
Writing/Work
A relatively productive writing week in terms of submitting another article for a client, working on the secret project, and a few good Medium articles to boot.
For the part-time gig, I put in another full 15 allotted hour week, as the semester begins on Monday (aka when you’re reading this, presumably).
General Life Stuff
As I mentioned, we entertained this weekend, which both of us always really enjoy. Andy loves to cook for people and I love to bake for them. Azula, however, doesn’t like it when anyone is in our space, so there’s that.
Just before dinner yesterday, the new ergonomic desk chair I ordered arrived, so Andy and I assembled that this morning. So far, it’s more comfortable than the old wooden one, if nothing else. It’s also purple, because I had to have a colorful chair still.
Current Obsessions
TV
I finished Schitt’s Creek earlier this week. It was quite an enjoyable ride overall, though I don’t know that I have too much to say about it. I never did come around on Moira and found her irritating beyond belief, but maybe we’re supposed to? The series finale was overall satisfying, though I think I wanted to see a bit more of where Alexis was headed in life.
Food
I got to try out a new, summery cake recipe from Claire Saffitz’ Dessert Person. It was a cornmeal cake layered with strawberries and homemade whipping cream, and I think it came out quite well! Saffitz tends to prefer less overly sweet desserts, and it was the perfect note for this cake.
We have leftover buttermilk from it, which means I’m going to make some biscuits. I’m still searching for the perfect recipe, and have high hopes for this one from Sally’s Baking Addiction.
Gaming
Still on the Lemon Cake train while also watching way too much Baldur’s Gate 3 content and bemoaning the fact that I can’t play it. Alas, alas.
Words on the Web
Speaking of Baldur’s Gate 3, I wrote this piece about my FOMO and the quest to convince my husband that our household needs a PS5. I genuinely typed PS3 at first because that’s still the gaming system of the future in my mind, apparently.
Since I’ve been feeling tired lately, I decided to try and be funny about it in this piece, “Local Woman is Very Tired.” Some folks are responding with rather earnest sympathy, which was… not quite what I was going for here, but okay.
And that, in a nutshell, was my week! Stay tuned for how it feels to drive an hour to teach two classes on Tuesday, which is my fate for the Fall semester.
I love the purple chair, I want that!
