Dragging My Parents to the Local Farmer's Market
Life updates, words, and general chit chat from the week
What I’ve Been Up To
Work/Writing
This week felt pretty long in spite of being a “four day work week.” Not that, being a part time employee and freelance human, I have a traditional work week that heeds holidays, or anything.
My poor, introverted spirit continues to adjust to teaching two classes in the same day on Tuesdays, but I’m sure I’ll eventually come home and not immediately need a nap… right?
I’ve been chugging along with freelance projects and the book blog, but otherwise haven’t been striking too much inspiration writing-wise. I penned a couple of drafts that may or may not ever see the light of day, just to keep myself in the habit of writing things I’m not contractually obligated to write. (One of them is about the time I accidentaly scarred my childhood self by renting a Dragonball Z movie from Blockbuster, which briefly featured a cartoon penis. This is the stuff people want to read about, right?)
General Life Stuff
After much avoidance given the deeply frustrating prior attempts, I once again logged into my health insurance portal seeking a primary care doctor in our new area. This time around, I struck gold and spoke to a wonderful receptionist named Pam (thank you for being you, Pam). Now, I have an actual appointment with an actual doctor in my area!
I’ve needed a reset in the doctor department for a while. My former PCP was fine, but I never quite trusted her after how difficult it was to get any tests for my chronic health condition and all the times she wrote “seems very anxious about health” in my medical charts . I’m looking forward to starting fresh with someone I can hopefully develop a better relationship with, since my chronically ill butt is in the doctor’s office far more often than I’d like.
This weekend, my parents were in town visiting! Since we don’t have the outbuilding furnished for guests yet, they stayed in a nearby state park and spent the days with us. We took them to the local farmer’s market, which is one of the most impressive ones I’ve ever seen. It was fun to show them around and also stock up on my favorite local granola. Yes, I have a favorite local granola.
(I shamelessly “borrowed” the loaf of bread my parents bought to round out this pic for Bookstagram.)
Alas, football was on the TV for most of Saturday afternoon, and I have been informed that that was college football, not NFL football. Which means there will be more sports on the TV today. I’m sorry, sports fans, but the crowd noise sounds drive me bananas, and I just hate having sports on the TV in the house.
Current Obsessions
TV
Nothing new to report here. I’m back to my typical habits of not actually watching very much TV at all, and may do away with this section until such a time that I am actually watching anything again. I am keeping up with Only Murders, of course.
Food
As mentioned, I grabbed a bag of local granola at the farmer’s market. The brand is Best Ever Granola, which I absolutely adore. I like the chocolate chia flavor, which I will 100% eat like it’s cereal in a bowl with milk.
I also finally got to stop by the fruit refresher stall that does boba, and ordered a kiwi strawberry refresher with strawberry boba. Delicious!
Gaming
Honestly, I haven’t touched a video game all week. I continue to dream of the day when I can play Baldur’s Gate 3, and I’ve been thinking about seeing what other RPGs I can snag for the Switch in the meantime.
Books
I have checked out so many audiobooks from Libby lately since I have a longer commute now. Recently, I finally got around to the popular mystery/thriller Finlay Donovan is Killing It. And I loved it! I can’t wait for my hold for book two to come in so I can continue the series.
Words on the Web
This week, I continue to try and drum up enthusiasm for Witchtober, the reading extravaganza I’m hosting on my blog/bookstagram. I posted a list of 6 witchy recommendations, which you can read on the blog here, or on Medium here.
