Beignet Cravings as an Unexpected Occupational Hazard
Life updates, words, and general chit chat from the week
Happy Monday, my friends! Here in the States, it’s Labor Day, and many workplaces are closed in honor of the national holiday. I do admit I miss paid vacation days more than almost anything else about working a traditional, full time job. Sure, I have the day “off” from the part time gig today but that also means I have the day off from making money at said job. Alas.
Anyways, here I am doing a bunch of other workish writer things.
What I’ve Been Up To
The past week felt incredibly long, but I’m also not sure where all the time went.
Writing/Work
On Tuesday, I drove to campus for the first day of class for the two sections of Strategies for Success in College that I’m teaching. I underestimated traffic and wound up half jogging down the hill in my flats to make it to class a handful of minutes early so I could settle in. Tomorrow, you can bet I’ll be leaving earlier. I don’t do late. I don’t even do on time. I do “so early I wait in the car until it’s acceptable to go inside.”
Writing-wise, I had a deadline for the big project and another article for one of my freelance clients. I write for a Disney blog and the latest assignments have all been related to Disney World beignets. I’ve never had a beignet, and I’ve only been to Disney World once, but now all I can think about are Mickey shaped fried dough treats. I’ve decided that, on my budget, it makes much more sense to try and make a copycat (copymouse?) recipe at home, so stay tuned for that adventure.
General Life Stuff
My husband had his fantasy football draft yesterday, which was followed by a general get together with the friend group. I showed up an hour in because he insists the draft only takes an hour. Spoiler alert: it takes two. Thankfully I’ve learned to bring my Kindle, so I sat and enjoyed my book while they finished up doing imaginary football things.
Current Obsessions
TV
I won’t lie to you—I’ve been mostly watching Bluey this past week. After finishing Schitt’s Creek I have no ongoing show to invest in, and I love the cartoon even though it’s “for kids.” I like to explain to Azula that Bluey and her family are heelers like her.
Food
As mentioned above, I’ve been thinking and writing a lot about beignets. So much so that I debated a flight to Orlando, then remembered I hate planes and also crowds. Now, my mission is to make some at home.
Gaming
Honestly haven’t done much in the way of gaming this past week. Unless you count grumpily watching Reels about Baldur’s Gate 3 in which case I definitely did do some of that.
Words on the Web
Not too much that I can share this week writing wise, aside from plenty of new posts on the book blog. I did my usual end of month reading round up and new release highlights and have otherwise been working on longer term projects as well as work for clients.
