Happy August, my friends! There’s nothing quite like turning the page over to a new month and starting fresh—new calendar from Yoga with Adriene, new reading month to track, and more.
For many of us, this is the last hurrah of the summertime before back to school. Though, in Student Affairs, it’s pretty much all systems go from mid-July, so I confess it feels a lot like summer is ending.
This is a great time of year to consider what you’ve accomplished thus far in the year, and think about how you can best utilize the months that remain in 2021. It’s also a great time to check in with those reading goals and resolutions, if you set them.
And so, without further ado, let’s get to a few recommendations for the week!
Book Rec of the Week
It’s a little unconventional, but the book I’m recommending this week is a cookbook—Run Fast, Cook Fast, Eat Slow by Shalane Flanagan and Elyse Kopeckey. I bought this book off a single recipe featured online—carrot and apple superhero muffins. There are three variations of this recipe, and in my opinion, the book’s worth it for these alone.
Flanagan and Kopeckey have a healthy, whole food attitude that means nothing is off limits, including butter. The recipes are intended to be nourishing and filling to keep you fueled on the run—but I have to say, they’re delicious even when I’m taking time off for my pesky knee.
This dynamic duo have their next cookbook focused on breakfast coming out in October, and you better believe I already have it on preorder. In the meantime, I can’t recommend Run Fast, Cook Fast, Eat Slow highly enough.
Tarot Reading of the Week
Card of the Week: Queen of Cups
Deck Used: Starchild Tarot (Akashic)
The Queen of Cups is a card of introspection and healing. Her invitation is to listen to your inner knowing and use it to serve not just yourself, but those around you. In the past weeks, we’ve reflected on our strengths and taken time for ourselves.
Now, it’s time to be on the lookout this week for opportunities to use your strengths in service of others—be that in donation of time, money, or small kindnesses. Just be sure to be realistic about what you can offer, so that you don’t overextend yourself.
Words from the Web
It’s about time I feature some of the phenomenal guest posts I’ve been running over at Your Book Friend in this newsletter.
Each Wednesday, we feature a different writer’s current and recent reads, and there have been some amazing submissions. You can check them all out at the What We’re Reading Wednesdays landing page.
Since it’s the start of a new month, there’s also a brand new reading recap of my best (okay, only) reads from the month of July. Check it out here!
That’s all for this week! I hope that your week (and month) get off to a great start. As always, let me know if you’ve got any feedback or if this week’s tarot card showed up for you in an interesting or unexpected way. I’ll see you same time, same place next week!
