Hello and a happy Monday, my friends! I’ve been visiting with my parents this weekend, as I was in Cincinnati for the Flying Pig Half Marathon. That turned out to be quite the (short) adventure, as a shelter in place for severe weather was issued about 20 minutes into the race. Many runners soldiered on, but my friend and I decided to call it quits what with the rain and lightning.
We had a fun weekend nevertheless, and I got to visit one of my favorite Cincinnati staples, the massive international grocery store slash adventure land that is Jungle Jims.
Thankfully, I remembered to bring my laptop with me for once, so I’m sliding into your inboxes once again with some book recs and a tarot reading to start your week!
Book Rec of the Week
This week, I’m recommending the wonderful short story collection, Games and Rituals, from Katherine Heiny. It’s chock full of stories with a quiet humor and reflections on life and love and relationships, much as you might expect if you’re at all familiar with her work. It was such a delight to read!
Tarot Reading of the Week
Deck Used: Biddy Tarot
Card of the Week: The Star
What a great card to start the week! The Star is all about hope and renewal. It brings the potential for growth and creativity, and is one of my favorites to see whenever it pops up. Take some time this week to notice the bright spots in your day-to-day and maybe jot down some gratitudes for the things that bring you hope and leave you feeling refreshed.
Words from the Web
This week, I’m recommending this article on finding joy in the every day from Fleurine Tideman. It’s a welcome reminder that we don’t have to wait for the weekend to do something we enjoy.
As for me, I got a bit vulnerable for Mental Health Awareness Month and talked about my journey to finally trying medication for my depression and anxiety. This is an essay I’ve been fiddling with for a while, waiting to feel ready to put it out into the world. Now, here it is.
That’s it for this week at Amanda Reads! Hope your week gets off to a good start, and as always, I’d love to hear from you about this week’s recs and/or Tarot reading!
