Amanda Reads: Issue 35
Your reading recommendations and Tarot reading for the week of 3/20/2023
Hello, my friends! Happy Monday, and a happy Spring Equinox to those of you in the Northern Hemisphere! I’ve had a busy weekend as my mom is in town visiting for my birthday, so we’ve been out of the house much more frequently than usual. It’s nice, but also leaves me feeling tired from the shift in routine.
Since today marks the start of a new season, it feels especially fitting to have the day fall at the start of the week. Like two fresh starts in one day, if you’re into that sort of thing. To help get the week kicked off, let’s dive in to the reading recs and Tarot reading of the week!
Book Rec of the Week
Since Mom brought a lot of my books from home, including several childhood favorites, I’m digging into the archives and recommending Libba Bray’s A Great and Terrible Beauty.
This book starts off a trilogy about a young woman who is sent away to school and begins dabbling in magic alongside her new friends. It was a huge favorite of mine growing up, and I’m sorely tempted to reread it now that it’s here in my house.
Tarot Reading of the Week
Card of the Week: Page of Lockpicks
Deck Used: Skyrim Tarot
Continuing the trend of nerdy decks recently adding to my collection, this week’s pull comes from the Skyrim Tarot, a thing I learned existed and then immediately acquired because how could I not? The suits are based on skills you learn in the game, which brings us to the Page of Lockpicks.
This card signifies an eagerness to learn new skills, to take on a variety of new ideas. Consider where you might be able to gain new knowledge or start a new hobby this week. Is there something you’ve been wanting to learn or pursue? This may be the time to get more serious about it.
Words from the Web
One of my favorite things to read on Medium are humor essays, as you probably guessed from last week’s pick. This week, I’m highlighting Stephanie’s “8 Regrettable Trends We’d Like You to Try in 2023,” which gave me a good chuckle.
As for me, it’s been a relatively slow writing week, but I did try my hand at being mildly funny about my skincare routine in this essay about things I’ve recently put on my face.
That’s a wrap on this week’s edition of Amanda Reads! I hope you have a wonderful start to your week and that you’re able to enjoy some sunshine to celebrate the Equinox.
As always, feel free to let me know if this week’s Tarot reading stands out in any way or if you have thoughts on the recs of the week! Thanks for being here, and I’ll see you next week.
That Skyrim deck!! Love it
