Happy Monday, my friends! Today marks the beginning of a brand new chapter in my professional life. Friday was my last day working in student affairs, and I am now focusing on writing full time. This is an exciting and deeply terrifying step, as I learn more about the world of freelance writing and dive in to finishing up my memoir-in-progress.
But enough about me for now. Let’s dig in to your reading recommendations and tarot reading for the week ahead!
Book Rec of the Week
I’m still thinking about my last read of 2022, Iona Iverson’s Rules for Commuting. So, I may as well make it this week’s recommendation! This book is told through multiple perspectives, telling the story of a group of people who meet because they ride the same train every morning. As their lives become more entangled, they learn to lean on one another to navigate the challenges they face. I fell in love with these characters, even the less likable ones, and got really invested in their stories.

Tarot Reading of the Week
Card of the Week: Ace of Pentacles
Deck Used: Journey Tarot from Zenned Out
Aces are about beginnings, laying the foundation for what’s to come. The Ace of Pentacles in particular is about planting the seed for your financial or career future. Whether you’ve set new financial goals for the year or have just begun pondering a shift, this card invites you to remember that starting small is still a beginning.
Consider the small steps you can take to set yourself up for the future you want, whether it’s adding just a few dollars more to savings or starting to research that career you’ve always dreamed of.
Words from the Web
I’ll be honest and say that I was far too scattered with my work transition to keep good tabs on what I was reading online last week. I did a lot of blog hopping and keeping up with my fellow book bloggers, but I saved precisely zero links to share.
I do, however, have a few new pieces from yours truly to share. Last week, I reflected on finding inspiration from email subject lines. We also hit double digits with my Book News Corner column, which rounds up interesting book-related news from the week.
That’s it for this week! Don’t hesitate to send a comment my way if you’ve got something to say about our card of the week, the reading recs, or any feedback.
